Scientific Name Sisor rabdophorus  Hamilton, 1822
Common Name Indian Whiptail Catfish
Type Locality Bhagirathi River at crossing point between Kalna (Barddhaman District) and Nisinghapur (Nadia District), 23°13'33"N, 88°32'41.4"E, West Bengal State, India.
Synonym(s) Sisor rahabdophorus, Sissor rhabdophorus
Pronunciation Sai sore - rab doe for russ
Etymology The generic name comes from the Bengali name of the fish. From the Greek rhabdos, meaning rod, and phoreus, meaning bearer, in reference to the long filamentous extension of the uppermost caudal fin ray.

Feeding Readily feeds on live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, but does not take prepared foods. User data.
Furniture A sandy bottom with numerous rocks and some driftwood. Strong current and cool water is necessary, as these fishes are very sensitive to both temperature and oxygen levels.
Compatibility A peaceful fish that can be kept in a community tank. However, its habitat requirements are such that only hillstream fishes such as balitorine loaches and fast-water cyprinids such as Barilius are viable tankmates.
