Etymology | The generic name comes from the Bengali name of the fish. From the Greek rhabdos, meaning rod, and phoreus, meaning bearer, in reference to the long filamentous extension of the uppermost caudal fin ray. |

Compatibility | A peaceful fish that can be kept in a community tank. However, its habitat requirements are such that only hillstream fishes such as balitorine loaches and fast-water cyprinids such as Barilius are viable tankmates. |
